Fruits and Veggies

My coworker and I were chatting about family meals, and what we thought about the food we grew up on. She was raised eating a piece of fruit with, or after, every meal. What a great practice to have! For some people, eating the recommended amount of  fruits and vegetables each day can be a challenge, and I too have had my troubles with fitting in balanced meals.

If you think about it, this simple rule of thumb that would really help curb a sweet-tooth, enhance fiber intake, and load you up on all the great vitamins that fruits possess. Do you eat your recommended amount of fruits and veggies everyday?

Yogurt Pops

What is more refreshing than a Popsicle on a hot summer day?...HMMM,  maybe a glass of  ice- cold lemonade would be the closest contestant...but, not much else can satisfy and revitalize like the cool lick of a Popsicle. Here is a yummy recipe I found, and want to try...maybe we can make them together and have a Popsicle party?

Ingredients:
  • 1 1/2 cups Watermelon (seedless or remove seeds)
  • 3/4 cup fat-free thick Greek yogurt
  • Honey, Agave, or Maple syrup to taste

Directions:
Puree watermelon in a blender or food processor.
Strain liquid through a sieve and into a bowl- as it will have bits in it. Add the strained watermelon juice and the yogurt and blend well. Add sweetener to taste.
Pour the mix into a glass jug ( easier to pour in to the Popsicle molds) and then pour into molds of choice. Place in to the freezer and leave until set.

You can really make this recipe with any fruit you like or have on hand! Let the experimenting begin!

Figuring Out Life

As I was walking around town with a friend last week, I expressed concern that I was losing control, and that I used to have everything figured out... and now I don't. She immediately replied with "No Jules you never had anything figured out. You see, we both used to think we had it figured out... but (if you can believe it) we had even less of a clue at that time than what we do now."

I like this thought she had, and it made me laugh thinking about how organized, categorized and specified I thought life would become. Where would the light of the unknown be if we already knew what the future held for us?

Why I love dessert

Why do I love dessert?
Because it adds to a celebration and is easy to share. Lets face it... dessert is the exclamation point to the Seasons...

...Ice cream is to summer
what hot cocoa is to winter...

...A treat that makes everything seem right...

Why do you love dessert?

Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings

As I was driving home from Cleveland a few weekends back, I flipped on a CD that a work friend loaned to me awhile back. My first thought before track number one was over? Why did it take me this long to listen to such amazing music?

For the next five hours, I listened to Sharon 's strong and silky voice, danced along to the Dap kings rhythm and melody, and felt the power of the music they provided in my soul.

If you are into Soul music and have not heard Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings yet, I suggest you check them out, and hear their masterful music for yourself.

Bonne Maman Jar Idea

My favorite jams and preserves come from Bonne Maman! One of the many reasons why I love this brand is the packaging they come in. When I am finished with each jar, I always wash them clean and use them as containers (reduce reuse recycle my friends). Aren't these old jars filled with lovely granola/fruit/yogurt beautiful? A perfect, low maintenance breakfast for you or guests!
