Cherry Hand Pies: bonappetit.com

Cherry Hand Pies: bonappetit.com (click for the recipe!!)
I have come to the conclusion, that traveling to picnic's with food you have worked so hard on, can be more of a challenge than the actual creation of the dish itself. As a child, my mother would have me balance all trays, casserole dishes and cookie sheets on my lap while she drove to our "pot-luck-esk" destination. For the duration of the ride, I would spend my time praying to the sweet Lord above that I would not spill, drop, or splatter anything. I took this job very seriously, and believed it required complete concentration... When we arrived at our destination and all went well (which was mostly the case!), I would quickly hand over the dish/responsibility to my mother again, and be happy to have that leg of the outing over with!

Now that I am all grow up and in the city, I find my childhood responsibility to still be a royal pain in my rump. I usually have to walk with my dishes..or even worse, use public transportation. These hurtles have really curbed my creativity to shared creations....what to do...Oh, what to do...

Instead of limiting myself, I have recently decided to make the best out of my cooking bind by coming up with creative and travel "safe" foods. As I was searching for a picnic-ee dessert, I stumbled across a great hand pie recipe! See what happens when you start to think positive? The Universe answers in shape of a travel-ready pie... AAHH life... you are so wonderful.

Check out the beautiful recipe above and enjoy!!!

The Most Simple Salad

How these few ingredients make such a delicious meal is beyond me. If there ever is a question of higher energy at work, food would be the proof I would use to end all doubts.

I will be making this salad for dinner tonight. Won't you join me?

Glass Pitcher

Wouldn't this glass pitcher look fabulous on the table of your next party or picnic? The simple design looks beautiful and makes for easy cleaning.

Lemonade:

  • 1 &3/4 cups of sugar
  • 8 cups water
  • 1 &1/2 cups lemon juice
  • Optional: a few limes and mint for a garnish
  1. In a small sauce pan, bring sugar and water to a boil, stirring until all sugar has been dissolve. Take off of heat and let cool. Place in refrigerator until needed.
  2. Juice your lemons (1/2 a lemon usually has about 2 tablespoons of juice). Take out all seeds, and add in your lime juice as well if desired.
  3. Mix together the chilled syrup, water and lemon juice (I always add ice and mint leaves now if you want them). ENJOY!

The Rainbow of Love

I have decided to display objects I believe to be fabulous, and have officially put on my "loving list". Here they are in every color of the rainbow:

A colander is one of my favorite kitchen inventions. At one point,  I thought I could live without one in my kitchen... I found out I was wrong.

I know that I do not technically need an I Pad, but boy do I want one! And this wonderful orange cover makes the magic little pas even more appealing!

When I got my new "biggirlbed" a friend took one look at it and said, "finally, your bed doesn't look like it has been eaten up by your pillows"... What can I say? Throw pillows make me happy inside... I mean,  how can you be sad while looking at this beautiful yellow pillow?

I honestly had no clue that you could love rain-boots as much as I do before I received a pair of Hunters for Christmas. I feel invincible to any amount of rainy weather that comes my way. Believe me, if you buy them, you won't regret them.

I am sure you agree that one of the easiest ways to brighten up a room is to add a pop of color. Rugs are very easy decorating tools, that can add enticing color, pattern, and texture to any room in your house! I am in love with the beautiful blues in this "zig-zag" patterned rug.

Last, but certainly not least, my favorite French jelly will always and forever make it on my "loving list". If summer picnics, pool parties, and catching fireflies had a taste, this would be it.
