Ed Sheerran

I know I left you with my favorite Ani song yesterday, but Ed Sheeran has not left my head since the interview I heard with him on Q (my favorite Canadian talk show on NPR). Maybe if I share him with you, his fabulous voice will stick in your head too!

Oh Comics

There is something about reading the comic page in newspapers that still brings a smile to my face! Do you ever read the comic section? I would love to study comics from year to year, and see how humor evolves over time... Here is a comic I found on Comic Strip Library, that is from the 1921 and I could still totally see this in our newspaper today!

This one is from 1904, and is a comic about smoking... now that I could not see in the newspapers today!

It's Friday

Totally overbooked myself this week, and have not been able to sit down at the computer to say hello as much as I would have liked... sorry my friends. Leaving for Austin TX now, but hope you have a fabulous weekend and please do something that makes you laugh!

If you are wanting a new dinner recipe for late Summer/early Fall, here are 5 yummy recipes from the Huntington Post.... Enjoy!

Packing Up

This weekend, I will be going to Austin Texas for a work trip. Have you been to Austin before? I've always wanted to go and cannot wait to relax by the water!
Because it's only Friday through Sunday, I am planning on packing just a carry-on... and as a natural planner and control freak, I decided to pack last night! It's funny because I always think in my head that I am a light packer, but  at the end of the day, I prove myself wrong. Of-course, my carry on bag is overflowing and way too heavy to carry. Tonight, I will move on to plan B and follow these new rules I found on the art of packing one bag!

I will let you know how helpful they are and if the rules really work tomorrow! Lets hope, because I do not want to end up like I was on this Paris trip with Tasya - we were total bag ladies!

The T-shirt

Sometimes, there's nothing more fashonable, more comfortable,
or more flattering than a simple, solid, t-shirt...

Vince has some amazing ones that last (and hold their shape) for years!

John favors Urban Outfitters plain V-T's

And Levi's has great classic white T's!

But I've always favored American Apparels more than any other! What about you?

Friday Word Day

Hello my friends! This weekend, Maggie May from a luv type thing, will be coming to visit me in the windy city! I am hoping we can relax, have fun and maybe even fit in a DIY adventure. There are two chairs just sitting in my apartment that have project written all over them...

Here are a few pictures to leave you smiling this Friday- brought to you by the blog ladies over fifty!

Have a great weekend and enjoy Friday's word:

Confounding - to cause becoming confused or perplexed; to fail to distinguish

*Synonyms: astound, puzzle, startle, misidentify

Floating Clouds

Yesterday,  I went to search for a picture on my phone, and noticed a reoccurring theme in my photo gallery...clouds!

It seems as though I take a picture of the sky every time it catches my eye - which evidentially is a lot because I have an overwhelming amount of cloud/sky pictures. Do you remember learning about cloud types in school? I remember learning about them, but cannot remember a lick of what was actually taught... A new project of mine is to learn the cloud types again and to be able to name them when I see them floating around in that beautiful sky we share! Here is the cheat sheet I am attempting to commit to memory:

Can you tell clouds apart just by looking at them?

It's Fall Time

Pumpkin latte's and Football can only mean one thing - Fall has fallen!

Both of these (wonderful) things are a great reminder of why Fall has always been my most beloved Season. The only problem with American Football, is not always being able to watch  all the games I want to see or watching my hometown teams game live.
First and foremost, I am a Browns fan...but I still have lots of love for  The Bears... and then there's my admiration for the Manning brothers... I guess I have a lot of football love to go around! What about you? Do you feel loyalty to only one team, or are you able to support a few different ones?

Friday Word Day

Happy Friday to you! I have totally been on a documentary kick lately (thanks to John Paul Bria) so hopefully I will have a little down time for a fun new film!
What are your plans this weekend?

Let me know if you have any documentaries you think I should watch because I am always open for suggestions!

Have a great weekend - enjoy your mornings, evenings and nights. Oh, and here are a few links I thought you might like as well...

Late Summer Garden

You know all that talk about my back porch garden I did this Summer? Well, the fruits of my labor are finally showing up! Yeay!! I took these pictures this morning (sorry about the quality- I was using my phone) and I seriously get excited just looking at them! I totally planted too late and was not consistent on my watering, but something still decided to grow.

If I can grow veggies and herbs on our tiny balcony, you can totally do it too... Next summer I think I will hold a friendly garden competition, to see who can grow what and where... stay posted and start plotting!

Scalloped Tomatoes

I signed up for emails from Food52 awhile ago, but have yet to make anything from their suggestions! That is not to say the food and recipes are not attractive, because they all look amazing- it's really that I have not been cooking as much lately, and I'm starting to feel really sad about it. Food should be a priority, and somewhere in the midst of this hot summer, I lost focus.

Well, there is no time like the present and  I am determined to make a great meal tonight. Food52 sent an email today with a recipe for these late summer scalloped tomato's and it sounds truly wonderful (minus the bacon fat...). I cannot wait to enjoy!

Soba Craving

OK, I know I mentioned this documentary yesterday, but Jiro Dreams of Sushi is still swimming in my head. There is one specific scene where Jiro and his friends are eating a meal, and the way they all slurped up their soba noodles made them look oh-so delicious.
Soba noodles are one of my absolute favorite things to eat, so it really does not take much to turn my craving-button on!

I recently found a tasty recipe for Soba noodles and Raw Veggies from Cookie and Kate,
that I cannot wait to try it this week... Here is the recipe if you would like to make them too!

Happy Labor Day!

Happy Labor Day to all my fellow Americans (and happy Monday to everyone else)!
Besides being the last day of the season to officially wear white, I haven't thought about what Labor Day was actually for...have you?
According to this government website, Labor day is "the first Monday in September, is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country."

What a good reason for a holiday, right? Hopefully, you are taking the time to relax with your family and friends. Claire and I were talking yesterday, and she is stuck at school alone for the weekend. Being alone on holidays, even the smaller ones, always sucks. Today for my meditation, I will concentrate my energy on those of you that feel alone today...hopefully you will feel my energy with you and realize how much I love you!

Enjoy the day!

P.S. If you have nothing to do today, I have to awesome movie recommendations for you. For those who have Netflix, you need to see Jiro Dreams of Sushi.  Believe me, it is worth reading through the subtitles. Also, Liza and I went to see Sleep Walk With Me at the Music Box Theatre... if you are a fan of Ira Glass and love comedy, this film is for you!
