Blink

Blink...I am two years old, looking at my shiny shoes as my father stands me atop the church pew...Blink... I am six years old sitting on my cousins lap at christmas, wishing I could grow up and have hair as long as hers...Blink... I am nine, waking up on Sunday morning to jazz music and Moms "breakfast surprise" on the kitchen table...Blink...I am thirteen years old, painting my toenails with Bri-Bri on our front yard walkway...Blink...I am sixteen, learning how to parallel park with my brother...Blink...I am seventeen and in the car with my high school boyfriend, with the windows down and the music loud...Blink...I am nineteen years old and at my Fathers funeral...Blink...I am twenty-one years old drinking Pivo (beer) in Prague...Blink... I am twenty-two years old celebrating my graduation from college and my Lupus remmision...Blink... I am twenty-three in Nashville with my best friends, celebrating an engagement...Blink... I am here in my bed with a good book and my dog, trying hard not to blink.

Soba Soba Everywhere


As my work day came to an end, I had high hopes for the evening. In my head, I labeled the afternoon my "big productive night." ...then, something happened. Somewhere between my commute home and walking Ballou... all of my built up steam dissipated. Just looking at the stack of bills, laundry and dishes made my head, wallet and hands hurt.
I decided to at least accomplish one task on my list...while my brain said bills, my stomach said dinner...they rock/paper/scissored, and my stomach won.

As I opened the cabinets, a pack of soba noodles caught my eye. Soba + veggies = a dinner of champions. You see, soba noodles find their origin in Japan. They are made out of buckwheat (with some regular wheat) and they cook really quickly. Soba can be made to eat cold or hot, and buckwheat is a great source of magnesium. I highly suggest you try them out. The best part of soba is the cook time. It only takes a couple minutes, and they are ready to be drained, mixed in with your ingredients of choice, and eaten.

My delicious soba noodle dinner saved me so much time, I was able to get most of (well, part of) my to-do list done!

Indoor Plants

Every time I step foot into my shoe-box of an apartment, I tend to become happy instantly. Is it Ballou twirlling around my feet, or the smell of lilac and vanilla candles lingering in the air, that makes my heart smile? Both have a positive effect, but there is someting else indeed that helps. My green, leafy, luscious plants. They perk up even the loneliest of corners...helping our homie indoors stay intouch with the great outdoors. Unfortunatley, I was not blessed with a green thumb; I have underwatered, overwatered, and by defalt, murdered some wonderful plants. If you have a similar problem, do not be deterred! Here are some easy peasey plants that tend to grow, no matter how forgetful you are! Just try to remember, plants need the same 4 things you need to survive: water, sunlight,fresh air, and love.

Easy To Maintain Plants

1. Angel Ivy Ring Topiary
Use this fast-growing angel ivy topiary (also known as wire vine) as a lush, living frame for seasonal flowers and bulbs that you can plant at the base of the ring.

Strength In Teeth

A few days ago, I ate a seaweed salad. It was deliciously satisfying.. until I bit down, on a bite, I must not have positioned quite right in my mouth. For, somehow, that seemingly tasty bite, sent ridiculous vibrations through one side of my mouth and straight to my brain. Thank the sweet powers above I had Tylenol in my purse, or I would have been left with a very painful predicament.
The sensitivity stayed for a couple of days.... Long enough to reminded me that I need to do more to maintain my teethies vitality. Once again, I looked to my favorite nutritionist(Gillian McKeith) for answers. A smile is an expression I always want to share more of, and be proud of. This is what I will be including in my diet to keep my smile as happy as can be.

Herbs for healthy teeth and gums

-Horsetail (2 capsules daily)
-Oatstraw (2 capsules daily)

Herbal Teas

- Comfry, tea tree, myrrh, licorice, peppermint, goldenseal, and sage. Personally, one of my all time favorite's in tea happens to be peppermint, but mixing sage and licorice can be really yummy.
- Drink one of the teas for 2-3 days and then rotate on to the next one. Always rotating so that you get a complete spectrum.

Nutrients

- Vitamin C with Bioflavonoids (1000 mg daily)
- Zinc (15-30 mg daily)
- Coenzyme Q 10 (30 mg daily)
